Week Five

Week five is over and we are planning to wrap things up next week. This week consisted of clarifying the architecture in my square. On the surface of our beaten earth floor we found a small, but beautiful, cosmetic bowl with some red and blue circular decorations on the rim. The square directly south of mine has been exposing some wood beams, which could possibly be the remnants of a floor, a fallen roof, or a weaving loom. A square in area C found a layer or complete to almost complete vessels (jugs, juglets, hippo jars) in the destruction stratum.

This weekend will consist of working on locus cards, wall cards, field journals and marking restoration pottery. We will try to wrap things up early next week and take our final pictures of the site. It always amazes me how quickly the excavation season goes, especially after I have been looking forward to it for so long! We will not be excavating next summer, but will continue in 2007. I look forward to seeing most of you soon! Email if you can!
